Egyptian Tomb Contains World's Oldest Cheese with Deadly Disease

Say cheese for me. No, you are not having your photograph taken. The world's oldest solid cheese has been found. It is 3,200 years old and was discovered in Egypt. Unfortunately it is diseased and cannot be eaten. The "slab" was owned by the mayor of Memphis Ptahmes in the 13th-century BC. It has been lying around in his tomb all this time. Put in with the official at the time of his death, it was carefully wrapped in canvas. Though it was identified as cheese. Whether it was made from cow, goat or sheep milk is not known. If anyone had eaten it they would have become very ill because it contained the bacterium of the deadly disease brucellosis. The presence of brucellosis have now been pushed back over 3,000 years. It has not been determined if it was a delicacy, maybe used as medicine or the tasty food was commonly consumed as ordinary meals. Dr Greco also identified the most ancient Italian olive oil and the earliest wine. Research continues in the Egyptian tomb

New Green Revolution

The Green Revolution occurred in the 1950s and 1960s. High-yielding types of wheat and rice were developed. It impacted greatly on the developing world. Chemical fertilizers and managed irrigation added to output. With the population rising on the planet, we badly need a new green revolution. Work is being done on rice specifically modified to produce heavy grain heads that will grow in cabinets where a perfect natural environment is created. For ten years, universities in eight countries have been pushing toward this brave new world of food production. The research consortium is headed by Oxford University and is funded by Melinda and Bill Gates. The aim is improved food production so investigative barriers have been broken: rice is being re-engineered with genes from corn and maize. Less fertilizer and water will be needed. Current Yield will be increase by 50 percent. In Western countries wheat is by-far the most consumed crop. However, more rice is eaten world-wide than any othe

New Tasmanian Law Bans Barbecue Smoke - Un-Australian

New Tasmanian laws to ban smoke are a joke and out of touch with reality. While the rest of the world goes on its merry way it will have no positive effect. Diesel trucks pump tonnes of filth into the atmosphere and there is no legislation to stop them. Not only will the new rules stop gardeners from burning waste vegetation, barbecues will be monitored as well. Recently a new type of barbecue has been released called the "turbo" or "low'n'slow" which increases the flavor of meat by creating more smoke. Ban criteria are just pulled out of the air. Smoke should not be visible for more than 10 minutes continuously. A fireplace cannot give off smoke for longer than 30 seconds. How are you going to stop burning wood from constantly giving off smoke? Fines are extremely large - $1,600 for the first offence. This is bureaucracy gone mad. If you are having problems with a neighbor they can make your life hell by reporting you for every fire you light
