The Yeti and Sasquatch are not the only apemen out there. Even Singapore has it very own hairy hominid. He has been named the Buki Timah monkey man. Twelve kilometers from the most populated part of Singapore lies pristine rainforest on the Bukit Timah mountain. People even today get lost in the nature reserve because it is so dense. But tourists flock to the jungle around the summit. Sightings of the creature go back over 200 years. An upright walking animal with a face like a macaque was seen in 1805. It should be noted that a similar creature was recently filmed in an alley in eastern Europe - believed to have escaped from a lab. During WWII Japan occupied Singapore and Japanese soldiers had many sightings. The only photo claiming to be of monkey-man taken is 1905 is not convincing. Some, usually forest living , people speak more than a dozen languages. However, their tribes are decreasing in number as more contact with advanced societies and destruction of the environment they live in continues. Papua New Guinea still has about 1,000 languages. Isolation is diminishing so more dialects are lost as times goes on. It has been said that as biodiversity falls so languages decrease in number. As carbon pollution continues what will happen to the Australian climate? We have just had the warmest May on record and are heading for the mildest winter ever. This will probably mean a stinking hot summer. Heat is rising while places like the United States are getting extremely cold conditions. This is mainly due to a permanent change in the Gulf Stream. Because Australia is large open savannah, it does store carbon, but storage is only short term. It will be released again further down the track. Ironically, plants are absorbing more anthropogenic CO2 (man-made) than ever before. It seems the high level of carbon is making flora work harder. Forget pollution from cars it is maintenance of the Amazon Rain Forest that is important. As more land is cleared to make money residual carbon in the atmosphere will rise.
