Banded Stilts Water Bird Always Finds the Water

As soon as inland rain arrives at Australian lakes, the banded stilt water bird makes its presence felt as well. It somehow knows that the rains have started from several hundred miles away.  This useful ability determines their way of life. They don't hang about long. Rainfall will be limited so they move on to the next fresh rains spot. Birds were tagged with satellite transmitters. One bird flew directly to a saline wetland 1,000 miles away in two days. Another bird got there four days later, but the destination for both was the same. Banded stilts do not have to migrate for improved feeding conditions. Their inbuilt system allows them to always find water. Why don't other birds do this? Obviously, evolution is "hit-and-miss". Animals develop abilities purely by chance. This is why evolution is successful. Animals move into niches that line up with their attributes. ✴ Science by Ty Buchanan ✴ http://www.adventure--australia.blogspot.com/ ...

Australia's Coast Will Be Lost

Australia could return to what it was millions of years ago - a cluster of islands covering a gigantic area.  The continent is very flat.  Mountains only occur on the east coast.  With rising sea level, first to go will be the large cities on the coast.  These are the major population centers. After this, an inland sea will form.  There is no doubt that the Poles are melting.  This water has to go somewhere.  The population will fall by 80 per cent.  Even if many flee inland, there are no water and food resources there to feed everyone, unless of course Aboriginal culture still remains.  Most Aboriginals today are urbanized and have lost much of the their culture. This will not be a solely Australian problem.  Most major cities in the world are on the coast, growing from estuaries where a large river flows into the sea.  On the Gold Coast, high rise building are only meters from an unpredictable sea.  After storms,...

Sea Levels Fall in Eastern Australia

It seems the Earth is trying to balance out global warming itself. There could be a natural balance level that the planet is attempting to reach. In Australia an unusual phenomenon has taken place. We have had a lot of rain in coastal regions, while inland it remains dry. The arid regions have soaked up the excess water only gradually releasing it to the ocean, so sea levels have not increased. Indeed, sea level has fallen 7 millimeters. Damaging floods cost Queenslanders millions of dollars. It was so bad that insurance companies refused to reinsured low-lying towns. Even the dry Northern Territory had floods. One of two very close La Ninas was the strongest ever recorded. The year 2012 was rain, rain and more rain. This is not something that global warming critics should put forward as a natural solution. Only in Australia does the unusual geographic structure of the continent exist. Humid air moved slowly east but moved as far south as Melbourne, pushing up rainfall 20 pe...
