Mad PM to Make Australia an Arms Producer

Australia's Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, is blowing out of his rear end again. You may say he is a dreamer with the quickie ideas he comes up with. I call him a stupid hairhead. He says such silly things like this country becoming a leading world arms supplier and willingly handing over funds, while considering stopping unemployment benefits for all people under 30 years of age. ⎳ Mad x PM to Make x Australia x an x Arms x Producer | blog | ⎳ His theory of the trickle down effect has been proved not to work. Giving tax cuts to the already wealthy never puts money into the pockets of the working poor. The rich just hide more of their ill-gotten gains in the West Indies as the PM has done himself. He has no understanding of economics. You get to be a "successful" businessman like him by skimming off the income of others. Somehow you find a way to charge more for the goods you sell. You can also do this by stealing from your employees. Something that the turning...

Jamming Prisoners" Mobile Phones Is a Waste of Time

Australia is testing technology that is intended to stop prisoners from using mobile phones to communicate with the outside world. Prisoners deserve to be locked up safely away from the community but don't they have some rights? This is like throwing then into the "cooler" and separating them from other people for days on end. Relatives are not prevented from visiting them. It just seems that blocking communication is extreme. This is an added punishment like introducing legislation retrospectively. When people committed crimes that led to incarceration they had no idea that they would be cut off from the outside world in such a draconian way. It is known that some criminals use mobile phones to continue crime on the outside. But is this grounds enough to stop communication for everyone in prison? Clearing prisons of mobile phones is an ongoing problems with hundreds of them being confiscated each year. When jamming is used it stops emergen...

The Casual Aussie

In the modern world many types of behavior are tolerated. Angry people are allowed to run the streets chanting their violent slogans. Individuals are entitled to live the life of a hermit, barely communicating with anyone else. Saying that things have changed is too simplistic. The more things change the more they stay the same. Some have said that Australia's new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is too familiar with all those around him, calling fellow members of cabinet by their nicknames. It has been said that this is new for Australia. This is nonsense. Australians quickly find the names of strangers and from the "get go" call them by their first names. I remember watching a talk on television some years ago and the American was really upset by the Australian, who was also being interviewed, for not addressing him as Mr "Smith". Australia is an unusual country. It has a culture of bringing everyone to the same level. Honorifics have little place in such...
