Wilike and Xenolphon's Gambling Reforms Will Be a Complete Mess

Parliamentarians Andrew Wilkie and Nick Xenophon's attack on gambling won't do much good - you can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink. They are consulting without listening. They have a "one-eyed' approach to the issue. There minds are already made up. Reducing the amount per "game" may help. Enforcing a limit on gambling for each player is not on. It is an infringement of people's rights, just like the Aboriginal Intervention which restricts the amount of welfare Aboriginals get for non-clothe, non-food purchases. Setting withdrawals at $250 per individual on ATM machines in clubs is a silly idea. What is to stop a gambler going next door to another club or hotel to gamble more than his/her limit? There are ATM machines everywhere. It would be very easy to use the identity of a relative or to pawn the family silver for cash. If the program is successful clubs will go bankrupt and state government coffers will be dramatically reduced. T...

New Lobsters Found in Australia

New lobsters have been found in Australia. Six species new to Australia were discovered off the western. Two are new finds to the world. The most interesting is Galacantha subspinosa which is bright red in its live state, before being cooked. It will make only a small meal being only a few inched across. There are hundreds of lobster species worldwide. They live in the shallows and the deep ocean. Those along the coast are related to crabs though they are called lobsters. The squat lobster is of this type having large front claws. The red G. subspinosa new to Australia would fit well into aquatic themes parks because of its pretty color. This squat lobster is not in sufficient numbers to be an economic fishing species. Furthermore it has a small body which would not provide much "meat". http://www.adventure--australia.blogspot.com/ http://www.tysaustralia.blogspot.com/ http://www.feeds.feedburner.com/AdventureAustralia http://www.technorati.com/blogs/http://adventure--austr...

Ocean Dead Zones Could Cause Mass Extinction

The number of oceanic dead zones in the world is increasing. In the zones oxygen levels are too low to sustain life. It is widely know that a monster area in the south Atlantic is growing in size, but there are hundreds more smaller dead zones. They are caused by overfishing and the nutrient rich residue in fertilizer runoff. Climate change also plays a part. As oceans warm up layers form and some become stagnant with low oxygen levels. Long standing currents and wind directions have changed which has reduced layer intermixing. Since 2000 over 400 dead zones have been identified. In the 1980s there were little more than a hundred. Some are huge, more than 70,00 sq kilometers, while many are less than a square kilometer. The lack of oxygen not only causes death. Offspring are born deformed. They do not survive, or produce fewer young. Danger of a mass extinction is now very high. Dead zones are forming on continental shelves where most fishing is done. The mere presence of humans is dee...
